Speaking to their official site after the game, Dario Gradi was disappointed to be on the losing side:
"We played okay. We started well and they did as well. They really put pressure on us in the opening 15 minutes, but gradually as the first half went on we began to get on top. I thought we looked the more likely side to score. We were playing through midfield and probably had the best chance of the game through Clayton but the keeper got a good touch to it.
"We are making chances, even if they are not great chances. We didn't play as well in the second half and Hereford defended well. Saying that I thought we were the more likely side to score again, but we ran out of ideas, so we changed to a different pattern by bringing Joel on.
"I haven't seen their goal again but I think it should have been Artell marking him. He was there or thereabouts and it would be nice if we could score goals like that and maybe we will. We prepared how we were going to play through the pre-season and I am not going to panic over the first game. We are not suddenly going to have a 25-goal man but hopefully they will get enough."
