The veteran started his League career with the Dragon, earning a move to Coventry in 2003. Stockport's departing manager Gary Ablett says that, although he expected the decision, he learnt of his dismissal through the press and he had no contact with the new owners.

Cheltenham winger Josh Low is to sign a new deal with the club. Newport have made an ambitious bid to sign out of contract forward Lee Trundle. The Conference have altered their rules on Administration to confirm that any side not agreeing a full 100p/£ CVA will be expelled, with Northwich and Salisbury failing with appeals against the punishment this summer.

The Crewe Sentinel is reporting that Crewe's wage bill is expected to be around the £750,000 mark for the coming season - around £15,000 a week. The Railwaymen have forwards Calvin Zola, Joel Grant, and Clayton Donaldson, who cost £500,000 between them in transfer fees, out of contract next summer but they cannot afford to offer all three new deals currently.

Port Vale are in negotiations with hedge fund trader Mike Newton over a six-figure investment into the club and a place on the board. He was a director with Oldham last season, but left the Latics last month. Chesterfield and Gillingham are said to be fighting over the signature of Kilmarnock defender Simon Ford, while the Spireites have been told they will have to pay £200,000 to sign winger Donal McDermott after his loan at Saltergate last season.

Rotherham are said to be chasing Leyton Orient defender Luke Ashworth, who has 12 months of his deal to run at Brisbane Road. Southend are on the verge of a major cash boost with former player Nicky Bailey about to make a £1.5million move from Charlton to Middlesboro. The Shrimpers hold a sell-on clause that could be worth up to £200,000.

Stevenage and Chesterfield's Carling Cup matches against Middlesboro and Portsmouth respectively have been selected for coverage live on Sky. The Boro are also said to be after Walsall forward Steve Jones. The former Crewe man has 21 caps for Northern Ireland. Mansfield have closed their Centre of Excellence after losing their Football League funding due to their failure to regain their League place.

Cheltenham have signed released Port Vale keeper Daniel Lloyd-Weston as no.2 to regular keeper Scott Brown. The 19 year old is a former West Brom trainee, but is yet to make a first team appearance.
