Hereford Born Wickham Impresses

Recently this site has reported on the progress of Aaron Wilding, the Hereford born mid-fielder currently playing at Cardiff City. However there is another Hereford born player attracting attention at present.

16 year old Connor Wickham is a striker with Roy Keane's Ipswich Town. Last Saturday he scored an 'eye-catching late goal' against Scunthorpe. It was his first at Championship level.

He will be 17 on April 1st and Ipswich are desperate for him to sign a professional contract.

"He has got it all and will only get better," Ipswich Town legend Kevin Beattie told the Green 'Un.

"I'm surprised he's still here with the talent he's got and the number of scouts watching him every game. But he's been wise to stay.

"He is already a handful for any defender. Pablo Counago and Daryl Murphy were being knocked about by the Scunthorpe defenders, but once Connor came on the roles were reversed.

"He started knocking them around.

"I'm not saying Connor is the next Rooney, but I can see them playing together for their country."
