Former Hereford United utility player Rob Purdie, now at Oldham, is to have a hip operation which will see him sidelined for the rest of the season.
27 year old Purdie moved to Oldham from Darlington last June but has yet to make a start for his new club.
"Rob's problems have been ongoing, but hopefully we have found out the cause and it will be finally sorted, though he won't play for the rest of the season," said manager Dave Penney.
"It has been a nightmare both for us and him as he won't have played in his first 12 months with us. Yet in the two years I worked with Rob at Darlington, he hardly missed a match."
Meanwhile Manchester United youngster Sam Hewson, who had a loan spell with the Bulls, is to have another spell away from Old Trafford. He will join Wayne Brown at Bury.
In total there have been 254 deals involving Football League clubs during this transfer window.
Finally Peterborough United have sacked their manager Mark Cooper after just two months in charge. The Posh look likely to drop back to Division One unless results improve quickly.
Former Stockport and Motherwell manager Jim Gannon is favourite to take over at London Road.
