Dennehy Helps Irish To Draw

Darren Dennehy helped the Republic of Ireland's u21 side to a 1-1 draw with Georgia.

The Irish held the lead until late in the game, with the draw virtually ending their qualification hopes for the European u21 Championships lying second bottom in Group 2 with just four points from their first five games. They face bottom side Armenia on Tuesday needing a win to retain any hope of qualification.

In other news it is being reported today that Chester are yet to pay Cambridge for the loan services of ex-Bull Mark Beesley. The Cambridge News says Chester are due to pay 80% of his Cambridge wages but are yet to do so, with General manager Robert Smith telling the paper: "It's a judgement we had to make, but we're confident that we'll actually receive the money. Should Chester not be able to pay and are in administration, we'd have first claim as we're a football creditor."

Chester have received a second extension to their deadline to pay football creditors. Monday's deadline has now been pushed back by a further two weeks.

Meanwhile Weymouth have a bidder to keep the club going, but have lost the services of director Paul Cocks who has chosen to quit the club in order to voice his opposition to the only rescue package on the table for the club. Cocks says the bidder, financial advisor Chris Ryan, has given no proof of funds and has offered just £2 for the club. Ryan and associate Steve Beasant, an undischarged bankrupt former property developer, say they will put £150,000 in cash directly into the club.

The remaining members of the club's board have called an open meeting to gather fans' views on Sunday evening before making a decision on it's future.
