Chester 'To Fold In Six Weeks'

Chester City will fold in six weeks unless serious investment is made into the club.

Managing Director Bob Gray has told the Non-League Paper that the club is rapidly losing money due to falling gates, and that a substantial investment is needed to keep the club running.

It is the latest lurch from crisis to crisis for Chester, who barely managed to start the season due to financial issues and have seen attendances plummet. They averaged 1,971 last season, but have lost 600 on that so far this season with their last three games averaging barely 1,000. They published their profit and loss predictions for the season last week, with a £600,000 loss envisaged without existing debts.

Meanwhile former Bournemouth co-owner Paul Baker has told the Devachat forum that he has been approached by serial club hunter John Batchelor with a proposal to take the club over and rename it 'Red Bull Chester City' due to a sponsorship deal already secured. Baker says he turned down the offer.
