News Round Up

The Notts County situation had most of the weekend papers throwing random names into the ring. Several say the club wants a 'marquee' name, with Figo, Patrick Viera, Pavel Nedved, Sol Campbell and others all mentioned. A more realistic report says Colchester midfielder Johnnie Johnson, a former Spurs trainee, is to have a medical at Meadow Lane this week while Tresor Kandol is another forward being linked to the club. David Prutton is also linked to the club.

Darlington are giving a trial to released Hartlepool keeper Jan Budtz. The big Dane played twice for Pools against the Bulls last season. Port Vale have signed defender Claus Jorgensen on non-contract terms. The veteran is playing for free as the club cannot afford to pay him. Northwich have had their latest CVA offer of 35p/£ rejected by the taxman. They have also failed with a 25p offer last month.

Yeovil have released midfielder Gary Roberts by mutual consent after a disciplinary matter saw the player suspended by the club. Mansfield's supporters trust has bought a 5.5% stake in the club for £55,000, increasing their holding to 8.8%. The deal values the Conference side at £1million. Morecambe have signed Exeter midfielder Emmanuel Panther on a season long loan.

Cheltenham say midfielder Michael Pook will miss a month with medial ligament damage after being substituted at Edgar Street on Saturday after 11 minutes. Darlington have taken Middlesboro midfielder Nathan Porritt on loan for a month. The 19 year old is an England youth international. They have also added former Macclesfield and Accrington defender Rikki Baines to their squad.
