Changes To Disciplinary Procedures

The FA have announced changes to disciplinary procedures for the coming season.

The changes mean that bans for yellow cards, previously implemented seven days after the last card was received, will now come into force immediately. The cut-off date for five yellow cards not earning a one match suspension has been brought forward to 31st December rather than February, which means that after the New Year only 10/15/20etc cards will bring bans.

The FA have also introduced regulations to enable them to enforce longer bans for red cards in 'exceptional cases'. These are expected to be for the 'horror' challenges that see players sustain serious injury due to challenges. The FA will also be able to charge teams with misconduct where three or more players surround the referee in a 'confrontational manner' without the referee putting the incident in their match report.
