News from Wellington Cup Game

Hereford United have put out a strong side for this evening's HFA cup game at Wellington and eventually won the tie 8-0.

Playing in wet conditions the Bulls took the lead midway through the first half when Leon Constantine scored with a penalty given after a Wellington defender was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

Marc Pugh made it 2-0 and Constantine 3-0 a couple of minutes later. It remained 3-0 at half-time.

No new trialists are on view for the Bulls this evening.

Our reporter at the game has estimated an attendance of about 250.

More goals for the Bulls in the second half. Tomi Ameobi, on as a sub, made it four and Lee Morris scored the fifth and sixth, Ameobi the seventh and Kenny Lunt the eighth and final goal.

Hereford United Starting XI: Bartlett, Green, Lowe, Valentine, D Jones, Manga, Lunt, Pugh, Tolley, Morris and Constantine.

Subs: Gwynne, Rose, Ameobi, Thomas and sub goalkeeper Chris Adamson.

HEREFORD UNITED 8 WELLINGTON 0

Hereford United put out a strong side this evening to win the final of the HFA Senior Floodlit Cup over a hard working Wellington side.

In truth, despite the wet conditions, once the Bulls had settled it was one way traffic.

The first goal was a penalty scored by Leon Constantine with 9 minutes on the clock after a Wellington defender handled the ball in the area. There followed a period of good play from the home side with Bulls keeper Adam Barlett having several shots to deal with.

Then on 35 minutes the Bulls doubled their advantage after a solo effort from winger Marc Pugh. Three minutes later Constantine scored his second of the evening after a Marc Magna pass.

It was virtually all one way during the second period. Kenny Lunt hit the bar but Wellington should have done better when awarded a penalty after Darren Jones was deemed to have handballed. Barlett saved both the kick and a follow-up header.

Tomi Ameobi, on as a substitute, scored the fourth on 62 minutes and Morris the fifth and sixth a few minutes later. Ameobi bagged the seventh after a mistake by the Wellington keeper and just before the final whistle Lunt finished the evening's work with a free kick from around 20 yards out.

Some good performances this evening especially from Marc Pugh and Kenny Lunt. However Tuesday's game at Kidderminster should prove more of a test for the trialists and give John Trewick more of an idea whether to offer some, or all, of them a contract.
