Former Hereford United player Terry Paine received his winners medal, 43 years after helping England to World Cup success, at last night's international at Wembley.
Paine was presented with the medal alongside several others of the 1966 squad.
"Getting a medal is something I, like all the others, have long been waiting for," Paine told the Daily Echo.
"At last it has come to fruition.”
Paine, who spent most of his career with Southampton scoring 187 goals, had three seasons with Hereford United from 1974 to 1977.
Known as 'Elvis', the 70 year old flew from South Africa to receive his award.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown commented: "It’s absolutely right that we recognise their role in England’s 1966 World Cup success – one of our finest sporting moments.
"They are real football heroes and have made this country proud.
"The 1966 World Cup engaged and inspired the whole country for generations, just as we hope to inspire a whole new generation with our bid to host the 2018 World Cup."
