In his post match interview Steve Tilson, the Southend manager, suggested that the penalty decision was harsh on Hereford United.
"It was a good win for us," said Tilson.
"Hereford are fighting for their lives and it really was a must-win game for them. That obviously made it more difficult for us.
"There weren't many chances in the game, but we had the better of them in front of goal.
"Francis Laurent realty should have scored late on, but if I was the Hereford manager Graham Turner I would be very disappointed with the penalty because I'm not sure it was not one - it was harsh."
