20 year old Godwin Antwi (photo from wikipedia) is to join Hereford United from Liverpool. Graham Turner has wasted no time in bringing in the central defender after all three Hereford central defenders were injuried last Saturday at Cheltenham.
Antwi will join up with fellow Red Peter Gulacsi at Edgar Street.
This from Sky:
Skysports.com understands Hereford have tied up an emergency loan deal for Liverpool defender Godwin Antwi.
The promising defender spent the first half of the season on loan at League One club Tranmere, making six starts for Ronnie Moore's Rovers.
In a bid to garner more first-team experience he has agreed a switch to Edgar Street, initially on a one-month deal with Graham Turner's side.
Antwi was part of Liverpool's FA Youth Cup-winning side in 2006 after joining the Reds from Spanish side Real Zaragoza the year before.
He spent time with Accrington Stanley before enjoying a season-long loan at Hartlepool last term, where he scored one goal in 27 appearances.
Profile from Liverpool OS:
Powerful centre-half Godwin Antwi joined the Reds from Real Zaragoza in August 2005 but has yet to make his senior competitive debut.
He was part of the FA Youth Cup winning team in 2006, establishing himself as a rock at the back alongside Jack Hobbs.
Antwi spent the final two months of the 2006-07 season on loan at League Two side Accrington Stanley, where he played nine games and helped keep them in the football league.
The following year took him to League One side Hartlepool United, a period which brought 27 league appearances and a first professional goal.
The 2008-09 season again started with a loan, this time to nearby Tranmere Rovers.
Antwi is the first Ghanaian to represent Liverpool. Though he also has a Spanish passport, his allegiance lies with the African nation should an international call come his way.
