We should have played Leeds Before Xmas - Guinan

Hereford United striker Steve Guinan has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he and the rest of his team-mates wish they could have played Leeds before Gary McAllister was sacked.

New manager Simon Grayson has taken four out of a possible six points over Christmas whereas Leeds lost five games in a row at the end of McAllister's period in charge at Elland Road.

"We were all secretly hoping that Gary McAllister might have stayed on for a few more games and that Leeds would have kept on their bad run," said Guinan.

"Don't get me wrong, Leeds are still in a good position just outside the play-offs – and I'm sure they'll get back in there again in a few weeks and will push on, I've no doubt about that.

"But it would have been nice to have played them when they were in a little rut after losing five on the bounce.

"But now they've got a new manager in and the attitude changes in the dressing room and the players will want to impress him and are fighting for places with Simon Grayson working out his players.

"We all know the squad and the size of Leeds and they've got a couple of decent results and we just hope we can perform for ourselves.

"We need to get something from our home games."
