Gary Peters has left his post as manager of Shrewsbury Town by mutual consent.
The former Preston boss told the official Shrewsbury site: "The results that we've had over the last 12 games haven't been good enough and I wouldn't have been surprised if I had been sacked. That hasn't been the case and it has been a mutual agreement between the chairman and myself that I have decided to leave Shrewsbury Town."
Peters won just 60 of 174 games in charge, scraping into last season's play-offs on goal difference. Assistant boss John McMahon, who previously had a brief spell as caretaker at Tranmere, will take temporary charge.
