For whatever reason Graham Turner decided to change Hereford United squad around this afternoon and in doing so did not go with the Gary Hooper/Sherjill MacDonald strike partnership which has worked so well in recent games.
Simon Johnson was dropped from the starting eleven and Theo Robinson was brought in. MacDonald started on the left and looked lost. He was moved to the right and still looked lost.
Last Tuesday at Dagenham Turner moved MacDonald to left wing late in the game.
Turner will have had his reasons for the changes, but they were not apparant to many of the spectators. And they did not work. There was little link-up play and as reported earlier just one shot on target.
MacDonald did not train last Thursday however it hasn't been made clear why that happened. Whether it had any influence in Turner's thinking obviously isn't known.
The partnership had produced 12 goals in four games. It failed last Tuesday but that in itself didn't appear to be a reason for breaking the partnership this afternoon.
Possibly Turner wanted to play Robinson and Hooper together in case MacDonald returns to West Bromwich after the Accrington match next Saturday.
Perhaps Watford had suggested to Turner that they wanted Robinson to play.
It's all speculation. Only Turner knows why he changed things around.
