Shergar comes good - very quickly

Just ten days ago columnist Simon Wright wrote that at Albion Serjill MacDonald 'is one of those players who is great in training but can't do it on the big day.'

So his five goals for Hereford in just two starts has given Simon something to ponder.

I suspect that next time the good people behind Bulls News want the inside track on a WBA player, they will ask anybody bar me.

What I wrote that Shergar couldn't score goals, he genuinely couldn't - it was a matter of fact. As a Championship player, he was a footballing jaffa. If anything, I was more positive than most about his contribution to the Albion cause. " McDonald - why?" was a familiar post or pre-match lament around WBA. I've seen club directors wriggling awkwardly as they tried to answer that question positively.

But now he's the talk of two footballing communities - at Edgar Street obviously for his sensational introduction and rarely have I heard Hereford's name mentioned so often at the Hawthorns - in the pub, in the street, at the turnstile, in the seats .... and that was before his hat trick. I reckon Tony Mowbray is almost smiling (its not one of his favourite hobbies) now. " Aye, lad can play. Told ya." The Chairman of WBASC who threatened to streak naked if Shergar scored a competitive first team goal is under pressure to disrobe by his so-called friends who maintain that his original statement didn't have the word 'Albion' in it.

With the Baggies apparently eager to take striker Luke Moore on loan from the Seals (that's Aston Villa to you), next week, there is a reasonable possibility that Albion may agree to a loan extension- if required. But don't take advantage and overload Shergar. The Dutchman is only used to playing for 20 minutes or less in games - poor chap will be taking to his bed for days on end.
