Former Hereford United player Gavin Mahon may move from Watford. Speculation increases that several clubs are interested in his signature.
The latest club said to be showing interest is Ipswich Town. They have a new owner and manager Jim Magilton is understood to have several million pounds available for new players.
Queens Park Rangers are also believed to be following Mahon. Some sources suggest that they have offered £150,000 for the former Bull. Another club rumoured to be considering an offer is Wycombe Wanderers.
30 year-old Mahon is club captain at Watford and is on the last season of his current deal. He hasn't started for the club of late. Whether manager Aidy Boothroyd will offer him another contract or make him available for transfer remains to be seen.
"Gavin is in the last year of his contract and I've left him out at the moment because I think that John-Joe O'Toole has come to the fore and is playing well," said Boothroyd.
"I'm at the stage when I've got to make a decision on his future and I'll be doing that in a couple of weeks' time.
"Either way, I have to say that Gavin has taken it like the terrific pro he is. He's a good player and it's natural other clubs will be taking an interest in him.
"The decision I have to make is whether to give him another contract or not."
Gavin Mahon came through the Wolves youth ranks and following his release in 1996, he joined Hereford United. The midfielder spent two and a half years at Edgar Street before he became the only player to be sold directly to a league team since relegation. Brentford shelled out an eventual £130,000 for the dreadlocked youngster, and he played a big part in their promotion to Division Two in 1999. He is currently at Watford.
