Leeds shouldn't take the Bulls for granted

Despite Leeds defeating Swindon Town yesterday they shouldn't take the Bulls for granted. For Hereford United put in a powerful display yesterday and, at times, showed the footballing world how to play the beautiful game. The two goals Stockport scored were, perhaps, rather fortunate but Lionel Ainsworth's three goals were all well worked.

As for those Stockport goals, firstly the penalty might not have been awarded on another day by another referee and secondly, as the TV replays show, Wayne Brown was tightly surrounded by players when he unfortunately tipped Michael Rose's corner into the net.

Looking at today's papers there are various reports on Leeds 2-1 win over Swindon. Most are supportive of Leeds and how well they've done to date this season. But the Sunday Times reporter mentions their style of game which, in some eyes, is a little negative.

Dennis Wise’s formula for managerial success at this level is a simple one; assuming all other things to be roughly equal, fitness, organisation and power will make the difference. Their greatest supporter could not claim Leeds are passing their way out of this division, but few of their opponents are matching them for effort, application and conditioning.

The Independent report suggests the win wasn't convincing.

Leeds moved into the play-off positions with a slender triumph over Swindon at Elland Road yesterday.

Wise said: "I was pleased we got the result in what was a very tough game. Swindon work hard and I was disappointed with the sloppy goal we conceded."

Tuesday will be a great occasion for the players of Hereford United. Most of them will never have played at Elland Road, never have played at such a big stadium, and seldom gone into a game when, in reality, the result isn't over important.

They must go out there give it their best and enjoy the game and surroundings. And if they can get the ball down and play football, Dennis Wise and Leeds United might have to take note.

"I think we can go to Elland Road and enjoy it. I think if we can put on a display and show the same tempo of play when we are attacking we could cause them a few problems," said manager Graham Turner after yesterday's game as reported on the Official Site.

"It's another big game for us. The Birmingham game was another big one and at Leeds the ground is a 40,000 capacity and they do very well for fans," hat-trick Ainsworth told the Hereford Times.

"It should be a very good atmosphere and we are just going to enjoy going up there to play our football."
