McParland Named As Magpies Boss

Notts County have named Ian 'Charlie' McParland as their new manager to replace Steve Thompson.

The 48 year old has minimal managerial experience, coaching the Nottm Forest reserve side for ten years until the summer, but was joint Caretaker boss at the City Ground for a while in early 2006 - winning the manager of the month award and getting eight wins from 13 games in charge.

He is a former Magpies player, scoring 68 times in 237 games for the club over eight seasons and managed, briefly, at Arnold Town prior to his time at Forest. Meanwhile, assistant boss John Gannon has been relieved of his duties at Meadow Lane following discussions with McParland.
