Graham Turner has spoken about Chester chairman Stephen Vaughan and, perhaps surprisingly, given him some praise.
"Stephen Vaughan has not had the recognition that I believe he fully deserves," Turner told the Chester Evening Leader.
"He has kept Chester afloat and he deserves all the credit for keeping the club going.
"Somebody appointed Chester's new manager Bobby Williamson, and somebody had to back the club when they were in difficulty, but nobody seems to realise the enormous amount of work Stephen Vaughan does at Chester.
"I've got a hands on role at Hereford so I know how tough the job is. But the difference between Stephen and I is that I do the job as a profession while he treats the role as a hobby.
Turner was born at Ellsmere Port and played for Chester, making 215 starts, between 1967 and 1973.
"My Chester playing days were such a long time ago when the club played at the old Sealand Road ground, but I've got fond memories of my time at Chester," continued Turner.
"Now I'm manager at Hereford and I'd like to see the club maintain their fine start to the season.
"I know it's still early days as far as the season is concerned, but I feel tomorrow's match at Chester will help to either confirm our credentials or infer a possible flattering at the moment.
"But I'm expecting a tough game at Chester because they have a number of decent players, and they're well organised.
"I was impressed with Chester when I watched them earlier this season against Morecambe, and our chief scout, John Trigg, went to see Chester play Shrewsbury on Sunday.
"Both of our reports referred to Chester's good organisation, and I know they have a lot of very experienced players such as Tony Dinning, Paul Butler, and Simon Yeo."
Turner also spoke of the good start to the season at both Chester and Hereford.
"I am surprised that Hereford and Chester are near the top after good starts because both clubs have made a lot of changes during the summer and weren't expected to do as well as they have.
"It's nice to see we have done well because sides like Peterborough, Darlington, and MK Dons were the clubs who were tipped to dominate."
