Tim Sills scored for Torquay in their friendly against Yeovil last night which ended in a 2-2 draw. The former Hereford United striker put the Gulls into the lead with a downwards header from a corner. Later in the game he came close to scoring a second when he chased down a through ball and beat a defender but his shot was deflected towards the goalkeeper.
Chris Hargraves, another ex-Bull, also started for Torquay and Chris Zebroski, who recently had a trial at Hereford, came off the bench for a spell.
Yeovil, who come to Edgar Street for a Carling Cup game in ten days time, were given a good game by the Conference new-comers who have already defeated two League clubs in friendlies.
Meanwhile Dave Penny, the Darlington manager, has been singing the praises of another ex-Bull Rob Purdie.
"He fancied a different challenge. He's played something like 250 games for Hereford and he's only 24.
"Rob can play in lots of positions, he was left-back last season but can play in midfield and up front too.
"He was more or less guaranteed a place at Hereford, where he was the captain, so he wanted a challenge, he wanted to go somewhere where there would be people pushing for his place, and we've got that now.
"By leaving that situation and moving all the way up here he has shown great character."
