Season Preview: Part Two

Chesterfied: Last-Relegated, Bookies-14/1 (Joint 4th) - Three of the four summer signings are definitely in the veteran catergory with an average age of 34. Steve Fletcher can score goals, but it's unusual for one of his age to actually leave Bournemouth in his twilight years. Failure to score in seven of their last ten games led to their downfall so Fletcher, and former Forest man Jack Lester, will be relied on heavily to fire the Spireites back up.

Dagenham: Last-Promoted, Bookies-33/1 (Joint 15th) - The four summer signings, three from the Conference and one from Barnet, all failed to be first 11 regulars at their respective clubs last season. It's hard to see how last season's surprise package will do anything thing but struggle this season, and they must hope for momentum to give them a good start if they are to enjoy anything about their debut League season.

Darlington: Last-11th, Bookies-14/1 (Joint 4th) - Twelve in, twelve out, with Dave Penney completely rebuilding the defence and midfield. Striker Pawel Abbott, £100,000 from Swansea, bolsters a potent forward line that misfired so often last season. Anything but promotion will be considered failure, though the Darlo fans are already worried about a lightweight midfield.

Grimsby: Last-15th, Bookies-25/1 (Joint 13th) - Little more than gentle tinkering has been done by Alan Buckley after he did most of his rebuilding in January to steer the club up the table. The side does look short of a striker or two, with most of their available forwards inexperienced home grown talent. May dabble with the play-offs if one of them suddenly becomes a goal machine.

Hereford: Last-16th, Bookies-54/1 (20th) - As usual Graham Turner left it late to assemble a squad after wholesale changes, but the oldest magician in town continues to pull out bunnies near the end of the show like a rabid Paul Daniels. A definite lean towards a more experienced side this time round. The signing of Trevor Benjamin could go either Guy Ipoua or Leroy May but early signs are promising that the doom merchants will be wrong.

Lincoln: Last-5th, Bookies-22/1 (12th) - Lincoln will be renamed the Conservative Party if they get anymore disappointing May results. Five straight play-off defeats appears to have worn out the Imps, and the summer signings so far don't offer the possibility of a sixth successive campaign - let alone the automatic promotion that they crave.
