Peterborough United who host the visit of The Bulls on Saturday were founded in 1934 and during their initial years played in The Midland League, the entry fees being paid by a £20 loan from Grantham Town FC. The ground in London Road was hired from The City Council and a crowd of over 4000 turned out to witness the 4-0 demolition of visiting Gainsborough Trinity. A sympathetic local council later sold the ground to the Football Club for a nominal amount in the 1950’s! Twenty-six years later when Posh resigned from the Midland League following election to The Football League, the £20 was refunded! Season 1966/67 saw them play Sunderland in the third round of the FA Cup following an earlier victory over the then Southern League Hereford United. The 7-1 thrashing handed out by Sunderland was only a part of that unsuccessful day because Posh were later found guilty of offering illegal bonuses to their players and were subsequently fined and demoted from Division 3 to Division 4 at the end of the 67/68 season.
The present London Road set-up holds around 15000 spectators with up to 850 seats being offered to visiting fans in A block of the main stand. Further standing room is provided on the Moyes End Terrace in the case of larger visiting support but this is not expected to be available on Saturday. Admission is £18 seated and £13 standing for adults, £10 for senior citizens and students and £9 for U16s. The Posh website says that prices for U16s has been reduced to £5 for the rest of the season but is unclear if this applies to visiting fans.
