The Football League are investigating whether Accrington Stanley have fielded ineligible players and if correct the club could face a points deduction.
Stanley have issued a statement in which the club has confirmed that they have received documents from the Football League which suggest that ineligible players participated in three recent fixtures.
The club say they will submit 'a detailed defence to the Disciplinary Commission hearing early next month.' They have taken 'expert advice' and have told their supporters that 'they will take every available option open to them to ensure that League status is maintained.'
Meanwhile BBC Sport report that Preston youth team striker, Chris McGrail, played twice for Stanley while on work experience at the club and registered as a scholar with North End.
McGrail, 17, appeared as a substitute in Accrington's 3-2 win over Mansfield on 16 January and in their 1-1 draw with Wycombe on 20 January.
They say that the other game and player isn't yet known.
