Bristol Rovers' Chris Carruthers said that that night's FA Cup tie against Hereford United was the best atmosphere he's experienced at the Memorial Stadium.
Although the offical attendance was given as 8978 there are claims that the actual attendance was higher as some children were let in free.
"There was a great atmosphere, I knew there were a lot of people there, but I didn't realise it was quite that many. It was probably the best atmosphere since I've been at the club, and they are the kind of games you want to play in and be involved in," Carruthers told the Bristol Rovers Official website.
"If we were to get a big club in the next round there would be 12,000 fans here, and that would be great to play in front of. The crowd were brilliant against Hereford, and it's lovely to see the gates gradually going up and up.
"We've defended well for most of the season, we've kept a lot of clean sheets and we don't give too many chances away. Hereford had spells of pressure against us, they knocked the ball around well, but they didn't really penetrate us.
"We worked on the way they play the game before the match, and it paid dividends. They didn't create too many chances at all, and we could have had a couple more goals ourselves in the end."
