Lease extension confirmed

Herefordshire Council has backed Hereford United FC's promotion push into The Football League by granting an extension of the club's lease at Edgar Street.

The move means the club now satisfies strict Football League criteria necessary for entry into Division Two.

Under Football League rules all clubs must have a 10 year lease agreement in place on their ground.

Hereford United has two leases, one of which only had 9 years remaining. This has been extended by five years.

Now the club can go into the Conference play-offs against Morecambe, on Sunday, May 7 and the return leg at home on Thursday, May 11, knowing its future status at Edgar Street is assured. The play-off final will be on May 20.

Herefordshire Council has agreed the Deed of Variation on the lease between Birmingham-based property developers Formsole, who lease the land from the council, and the interim sub-lease to the football club.

The Leader of Herefordshire Council, Cllr Roger Phillips, said: "We are thrilled and delighted at being able to assist Hereford United's push into The Football League.

"The club has played, and continues to play, an important part in the life of this city. I would like to take this opportunity to wish The Bulls all the best of luck in the promotion play-offs.

"A club of Hereford United FC's standing deserves to be among football's elite."

Graham Turner, Chairman of Hereford United FC, added: "We are delighted that the issue has been resolved and would like to thank Cllr Roger Phillips for his personal involvement in securing the lease extension."
