Accrington's title can be delayed

Accrington Stanley could be celebrating winning the Conference title at 5pm tomorrow, provided they defeat Forest Green this evening and Hereford United fail to take all three points against Dagenham tomorrow.

However if the Bulls win tomorrow, Accrington will have to wait until at least their next game which is against Woking on Easter Saturday before becoming champions and that assumes they win at Forest Green and take a point from the game against the Cards.

The Milkmen currently need four points to be sure of the Conference title. They could manage with just three but that would depend on them keeping their goal difference advantage (8 at present) over Hereford.

Forest Green are fighting a real battle against relegation. They are in 20th place in the league and have only taken two points from their last six games. In many ways it would be a great shame if they had to join Conference South next season just as they start to play in their new stadium.

The club announced this week that Alex Meechan has become the third Forest Green Rovers player to commit to another season at the club, signing a deal until the summer of 2007. The popular 26-year-old, in his fourth spell at The Lawn, has joined Michael Brough and Paul Wanless as contracted players for the next campaign.

In many ways tonight's game at the Lawn is one in which the pressure will be on Forest Green not Accrington. And whilst the odds will be on the Milkmen being victorious, it is not beyond the realms of possibilty that the homeside could repeat what fellow strugglers Southport managed to do the other Tuesday and take all three points from the expected champions.

Some Hereford United supporters may attend the game this evening. Likewise, as they are already in the area, a few Accrington fans may call in at Edgar Street tomorrow afternoon on the slim chance the Bulls slip up against Dagenham and Accrington are crowned champions.
