Conference chiefs over-rule Grecians

Conference chiefs have told Exeter City that they must play their league game against Accrington Stanley on Monday January 30th so that it can be shown on Sky Sports.

As reported on Bulls News earlier Exeter chairman, Dave Treharne, claimed the fixture change would cost thousands of pounds in lost revenue by changing to the Monday evening from the original Saturday date.

According to the Exeter Express and Echo it has emerged that the contract signed between the Conference and Sky Sports means the broadcasting giant can cherry-pick the best games.

"The Conference were sympathetic but we have had a response indicating that we have no choice in the matter. So regrettably the game is going to take place on the Monday," said Treharne.

Treharne will raise the issue at this month's Conference chairmen's meeting. He says sponsors have already pulled out for the Accrington match because it is now on a Monday and he anticipates a significantly lower attendance than would have been expected on the Saturday.

City will receive £5,000 for having the game screened live and Accrington will get £3,000.
