Scarboro Losing Over £200,000 A Year

Speaking to a Fans Forum on Thursday night, Scarboro chairman Malcolm Reynolds confirmed that the club was losing between £200,000 and £250,000 a year, according to the Official Scarboro website.

The club, currently in administration, has a budget laid out of approximately £40,000 per month during the season. Once the season ticket sales money is used to cover close-season losses, each home match is reported to generate only £5,000 per game.

It could be a tough winter for Scarboro - they have just three home matches scheduled for November and December and, even if they get a fourth home game with a favourable draw in the FA Trophy, face losing anywhere up to £60,000 before the new year, and could lose another £100,000 before the season ends on current gates.

The key to Scarboro's survival is the sale of the valuable existing McCain Stadium site and moving to a new site on the edge of the town. The plan is to turn the alloted 15 acre Eastfield site into a long term source of income for the club by creating a new industrial estate on the bulk of the land with the stadium occupying only a third of the site. Building work is planned to start early in the Summer of 2006 with an intention to leave their existing stadium no later than the end of next season.
