Johnson hasn't spoken to James

The Western Daily Press has reported this morning that Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson has confirmed his interest in Hereford United defender Tony James. The former West Bromwich Albion trainee is out of contract at the end of the season and could then leave Edgar Street on a free transfer.

Johnson said: "He's a decent player and there's no doubt there's interest. But at the moment he is a Hereford player and Hereford are in a delicate (league) situation, as we are."

Johnson denied he has already spoken to the player, even though he is allowed to as James' contract with the Bulls is due to expire.

"I haven't spoken to (Hereford director of football) Graham Turner and I certainly haven't spoken to the player," he said.

While James is a target for the summer, Johnson added that he had other 'irons in the fire' regarding his current centre-half situation, with the March 24 transfer deadline approaching.
