United focus on league encounter

With FA Cup fever in the air, Hereford United have a tough task this weekend as they play Southport in the Nationwide Conference.

The fourth-placed seasiders have yet to beat Hereford in the Conference since the two first met in 1997, but United boss Graham Turner wants his side to focus on the task in hand after four games without a win.

He told the Hereford Times: "Southport are a decent side and they won't be far away from a top-five place at the end of the season. And we need to improve our home form because it has been very disappointing."

The Bulls are without midfielder Jamie Pitman, who serves a one-match ban, so changes to the team that lost 2-0 at Doncaster will occur. Ben Smith and Matt Clarke could feature, whilst John Grant will return to training late this week.

Turner continued: "We all realise that the FA Cup match against Wigan is just around the corner, and the thought of playing in front of the television cameras can act as distraction to the players. But the message to the players is that there is competition for places for the Wigan game and to concentrate on the match with Southport."

In the Wigan match, a Hereford bull could be paraded around the pitch, live on Sky Sports. The club expect some 500 Wigan supporters to make the trip from Lancashire.
