Three in England squad

Three Hereford United players have been called up to the England squad.

Goalkeeper Matt Baker, central defender Richard Teesdale and wing-back Michael Rose are all in the squad for England semi-professional's under 23 match against Italy.

The move comes just a few days after Adam Crozier, the chief executive of the Football Association who was responsible for financial support for non-league football and the re-branding of the semi-professional team, quit from his post.

Crozier was also an instrumental figure in concreting a second promotion place from the Conference and United boss Graham Turner commended his efforts.

"He has been a good supporter at our level. The distribution of FA Cup pool money has been extremely beneficial and I think Crozier was instrumental in that share-out," he told the Hereford Times.

"I met him with three other chairmen concerning the extra promotion place to the Football League and, at that time, he made all the right noises. Shortly after that meeting and, after years and years of pushing, the extra place arrived."

Turner added: "I have been totally disgusted with the FA's involvement in Wembley but their case for grass-roots football has been very welcome. It's a shame that somebody of Crozier's ability has now left the FA."
