United slump to
seventh
Doncaster
Rovers 2 - 0 Hereford United
Hereford were pushed down to seventh
place in the Nationwide Conference as Doncaster Rovers
emerged 2-0 victors at Belle Vue this afternoon.
Welcoming back Ian Wright, the Bulls
started brightly but a defensive mistake after just seven
minutes, as Justin Jackson attempted to thread a through
ball goalwards, resulted in Mark Albrighton opening the
scoring with a simple tap-in.
Paul Parry and Ian Wright both had efforts which went goalwards but neither particularly tested Andy Warrington as United lacked the killer touch in attack. Midway through the half, and Andy Tretton was judged to have fouled Jackson in the area, and referee Mr. Perkins pointed to the spot. Up stepped Paul Barnes to double the advantage, although Matt Baker did get a hand to the ball.
A low shot from Gareth Owen went well wide as Donny kept up the pressure, and Jamie Paterson saw his effort rebound off the post from fully thirty yards following a half-cleared corner.
The rain started to fall as Barnes fired wide following a Jackson cross just after the restart, and Paterson ran the length of the pitch as Rovers broke away midway through the half, only to see a weak shot saved easily by Baker.
Jamie Pitman picked up his sixth yellow card of the season for a foul on Jackson, but United then turned up the heat. With sixteen minutes to go, a deep Danny Williams free-kick found Wright in the box, who saw his quick header pushed behind by Warrington. Williams then swung in the corner, only for Michael Rose to see his low shot blocked.
United were lucky to keep the score down, and a late double save from Baker ensured that the deficit remained at two goals. The home side remain unbeaten on their own territory, whilst Hereford record their third defeat in five games.
