Age cap angers Conference chiefs
The FA's new 'National Game XI' will only feature players under the age of twenty four due to new regulations, report today's Non-League Paper.
In a bid to improve young players' chances of making the step up to the Football League, an age restriction has been implemented so that former professionals do not compete in the team as a means of gaining final England caps.
The new side will be managed by Steve Avory, of the Charlton Athletic Youth Academy, following the departure of John Owens. He is in the position on a temporary basis.
However, the age restriction has been criticised by several managers, including Nuneaton Borough boss Steve Burr, who sees his twenty-four year old attacker Mark Quayle ruled out, despite having scored twelve Conference goals already this season.
