Supporters Trust update
Members of the Hereford United Supporters Trust Working Party are pleased to announce very good progress to date in the work needed to set up the Trust.
As the Trust will be a legal undertaking, more time than some supporters expected has been necessary to ensure it will be correctly set up in order that supporters can vote to approve it.
The principal objectives of the Trust are:
- to strengthen the bonds between the Club and the community which it serves and to represent the interests of the community in the running of the Club
- to acquire and hold shares in Hereford United FC and act as proxy to existing supporter shareholders, with the express intention of gaining elected representation from the Trust to the Board of Hereford United FC
- to benefit present and future members of the community served by the Club by promoting encouraging and furthering the game of football as a recreational facility, sporting activity and focus for community involvement
It is hoped that by gaining elected representation of supporters onto the Board of Hereford United, the Supporters Trust can obtain public funds for the long term benefit and stability of our football club.
The key lies in the membership numbers it eventually attracts. Only then can we demonstrate to the outside world that we have a genuine 'community' based organisation set up for the benefit of all supporters.
Every member of the Trust will have one vote and one 'share' in the Trust (this will not be the same as a share in Hereford United, not until the Trust acquires shares of its own in the Football Club). An annual subscription will be agreed in return, but the aim is to get funds not just from supporters' pockets alone.
Members may put themselves forward for election to the Trust Committee which will comprise elected members (in the majority) and co-opted (specialist) members. Thus the Trust will be fully democratic.
A further update will be issued when the launch date is agreed. Volunteers to assist at the launch are very welcome.
