On The Up – New Edition of Talking Bull – On Sale Now

This from Talking Bull:

On The Up, the latest edition of Talking Bull – the Hereford Fanzine – is on-sale now via the online store.

A great start to the new campaign has seen the squad put together by Aaron Downes and Harry Pell reach the top of the Enterprise National League North.

The new issue of Talking Bull is once again packed with content within its full colour 40 pages, and is right up to date as we reflect on both the recent changes and events off-the-field.

Firstly, we reflect on the opening quarter of the season which included a momentous 6-0 victory over South Shields at Edgar Street. Will the standards set in that match be maintained?

Harry Pell joins us to reflect on his career and his first move into coaching, even advising us who he would sign on at Edgar Street if he could! Anthony Eckersley explains he is impressed with the management duo – even describing them as the ‘A Team’ as he hopes for an outstanding season ahead.

We look back to events at Moss Rose against Macclesfield, watched by Hereford fans in atrocious conditions, and assess the ‘Water Macc Scandal’ with the Silkmen intent on getting the match abandoned at half-time. Should not the National League take action?

It was so wet on the terraces that Paul Tanswell was inspired to look back at three games that tested the waterproofing. Three occasions when the weather was trying its best to get us to pack up and go home, and three reminders that, sometimes, the best stories come from the days when you’re absolutely bloody miserable.

What have supporters of Tranmere, Bradford, Marine and Manchester City got in common, asks James Edwards. It’s a slightly unfair question perhaps but, for clarity, supporters of each club have said to him; “I thought you were called Hereford United?” James wonders if the club will ever be allowed to restore the name?

An interesting idea by our PA man, Matt Healey, suggested it would make sense for there to be no scheduled NL fixtures on FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round day. Bill Thomas suggests the evidence speaks for itself with many clubs including Hereford missing out on Saturday afternoon fixtures due to early exits from the FA Cup.

Jack Pugh brings us his all-time best Hereford FC XI. He knows everyone won’t agree with his selections, but he explains his reasoning why players like Rob Purdie and Ryan Green are not included.

Another pleasing aspect of this season is the progress of our Under 18’s and the prospect of the upcoming FA Youth Cup match away at Oxford United. We preview the game and take a close look at our opponents coached by former Hereford midfield maestro Pablo Haysham.

TB Editor Tom Gough focuses his attention on the ‘Cheating at the Top’ as Manchester City face up to the 115 charges made against them. Chris Jones finds it mind-boggling, especially as a lot of it appears downright dishonesty and deception. Plenty of clubs have spent fortunes and achieved very little. Yet anyone who has followed football for more than five minutes knows that money gives you a huge advantage. It always has. The difference today is how it is happening.

Ian Broadbent, a season ticket holder at Preston North End since 1986 recalls some games against Hereford, and can still remember the goalscoring skill of Frank Worthington as he scored the winner in a 3-2 victory for Preston at Edgar Street. He believes PNE and The Bulls have more in common than he first thought.

Steve Hughes shares some fascinating insights into what it was like attending matches at Edgar Street in the 1950s & 1960s when the Meadow End had no roof and the main stand was perched on the edge of the A49!

In fact, there is so much content it would be impossible to outline it all here.

Fans can purchase their printed (whilst stocks last) – or electronic – copy right now.

Don’t miss out on a printed copy – as our last 20 issues have completely sold-out.

Watch out for, and listen out for, our sales team outside Edgar Street on Saturday ahead of the top-of-the-table clash against Kings Lynn. First come, first served. Still only £3. Cash!

You will receive your copy in pristine condition by ordering a posted issue.

New 8-issue subscriptions can also be obtained via our store.
