Aaron Downes insisted Hereford must keep their feet firmly on the ground after beating league leaders South Shields and ending their 16-game unbeaten run.
Two spectacular strikes from Harrison Sohna secured a 2-1 win at Edgar Street, continuing the Bulls’ impressive run of form under their new manager.
But despite the victory over the top side, Downes was quick to stress that the job is far from done with the side still in the bottom four as Oxford City won 3-1 at Southport.
“For me, internally, it’s very controlled,” he said.
“Enjoy winning football matches, definitely, let’s take confidence and belief in that and enjoy it because there is nothing better than winning football matches when you’re a footballer.
“But at the same time, we’re still in the bottom four.”
Hereford have now taken 16 points from a possible 21 since Downes arrived, but the manager warned that survival will require sustained effort, despite having up to seven games in hand on the sides above them.
His side now face a gruelling five games in 12 days.
They face the league's new leaders AFC Fylde on Tuesday at Edgar Street, who beat Paul Caddis's King's Lynn Town 4-1 on Saturday, before a trip to Alfreton on Thursday. Then on Saturday, it's Macclesfield away and then Spennymoor back at Edgar Street three days later.
"We're not just going to walk out of it," Downes told BBC Hereford and Worcester's Carson Wishart, adding: "Don't get me wrong, that's a fantastic win against a very good side and like I say, a team that will be very close to being champions of this division.
"That's a very good win for us and for the football club and I'm very happy to send everybody home, but ultimately, I've said to the players, enjoy tonight, but tomorrow is get your head back on it because Tuesday is going to be a very tough game again.
"Then we've got a different situation and task on Thursday.
"It's trying to get the balance between enjoying it but maintaining control and maintaining our ultimate objective."
