Bill Clayton feels the club needs to change direction.
'I have been involved in professional football at first team level for 40 years and by far the most relevant to this comment are the two spells working for Graham Turner first at Wolves and more latterly from 2005 to 2010 as Chief Scout at Hereford.
When Graham left Hereford so did I but I have always remained in touch with him as I went around other clubs. From a distance I saw the demise and re-birth of Hereford, always maintaining a close interest.
During the time I was at Hereford we signed the likes of Richard Rose, Dean Beckwith, Clint Easton, Toumari Diagouraga, Mansel Manset and Gary Hooper to name a few. These young players stayed in digs in and around Hereford and formed a bond and a loyalty to the club and the city, and when the time came for them to move on Graham did shrewd deals to continue the financing of the club.
Whilst the club has recovered somewhat from the darkest days may be it needs to change direction and identify once again with the city by disgarding part time mercenary players, indeed even the Manager lives hundreds of miles away, and by doing so "come home" to forge a new way forward. It should be better than the lower half of the 6th tier
I also helped to bring to Edgar Street Peter Gulaci, Trent McLenahan, Robbie Threlfall, Ben Smith (2nd time around) and Lewis Young. Perhaps the critical factor in the unity / identity was the fact that the players trained in the city every day.
When training finished it was then that the various groups popped into the city for a coffee and there that they met and chatted with supporters giving a feeling of belonging both ways. After the games on a Saturday the lads went back to their homes and families only to ensure that they were back for training on Monday morning.
Great days when we did not have much but we shared it all together to give us our winning spirit and mentality.'
