Williams signs for National League North club after Edgar Street release

Kai Williams made only one appearance during a short stint at Hereford

Winger Kai Williams has joined Enterprise National League North side Worksop Town after being released from Edgar Street.

Having been billed as an exciting summer signing for Paul Caddis as he arrived a season after helping Tamworth win promotion to the National League, he left on 26th August.

But, struggling with injury, he left at a time when Caddis vowed to swing the axe after a disappointing start to the season. Alongside Chris Wreh he made way before the arrival of loanees Michael Parker and Montel Gibson.

Worksop boss Craig Parry, who started Williams in their 2-0 defeat against Bedford Town on Saturday, said: “It’s great to get Kai over the line. With injuries in the wide position, it’s been a real area of concern for us.

“We needed to get a winger in that fits our profile, which is to have good pace and be able to get in behind and threaten them, and he fits that profile.

“He’s worked with us this week, and so far, so good, and we look forward to seeing how he makes an impact on our games.”

Williams began his playing career coming through the ranks at Coventry City, before beginning his journey through the non-league pyramid. His earlier clubs include the likes of Coventry United, Bedworth Town, Stratford Town and Barwell FC.

He then made 48 appearances over two seasons at Tamworth before the short spell at Edgar Street where he featured once.

He came on in the 80th minute as Hereford were beaten 2-0 at Edgar Street by King's Lynn Town in the second game of the season.
