Matt Preston receiving treatment in the 2-2 draw at Hemel Hempstead on Saturday
As Hereford are left licking their wounds after being dumped out of the FA Cup by Hemel Hempstead Town, manager Paul Caddis is on the hunt for new faces for his squad which he's admitted is down to bare bones.
With a dressing room riddled with injuries and players who were unavailable, even those on the pitch for the third qualifying round replay weren't 100 per cent fit, such as centre-back pair Kyle Howkins and Matt Preston.
Caddis is desperate for lively young winger Eno Nto to get match fit, sounding exasperated in his post-match interview as he said his players were "absolutely dropping like flies". He said Nto needs to get fitter and more robust, having to come off in the second half as he was struggling with his hamstring.
While admitting fitness worries weren't an excuse and his side should have done better, the 1,300 fans inside Edgar Street would've noticed how the Bulls just ran out of steam in the second half and crumbled with two late goals to gift the Tudors a slightly flattering scoreline.
Giving an injury update, he said midfielders Gus Mafuta and Lawson D'Ath were still out, while Preston Bitemo hadn't trained since returning from concussion, having been knocked out at Darlington on 6th September.
Adding to Caddis's woes, Matt Richards is struggling as his ankle is "like a balloon" and Andy Williams, regularly shouting from the touchline during the replay, is "probably going to be out".
Defender Michael Parker has returned to parent club West Bromwich Albion, though there is hope he can return; Montel Gibson was unavailable, being cup tied; and Madou Cisse was absent due to a "personal matter".
"I don't want it to look like excuses because I never do that but we still believe we had enough to get something over the line," Caddis said.
While he would have loved to bring on fresh legs from the bench, his only real options on the attacking front were 37-year-old assistant manager Adam Rooney and Preston Bitemo.
"We need to try and get some players in, to be honest," the downbeat Scot admitted.
"We can't bring players in when it's a replay - you can bring players in but they don't become eligible.
"Ideally, we'd have got a couple of bodies in tonight, would have got a couple of bodies in last week as well, but we just need to pick ourselves back up."
So while Caddis would like new players, it remains to be seen who is available and whether there is money in the budget to do so before Hereford turn their attention back to National League North with a trip to Leamington on Saturday.
