The striker only rejoined the Bulls last month, on loan from Matlock. However, Hereford has confirmed his contract at the Derbyshire club has been terminated.
The Bulls added that boss Paul Caddis has been fully aware of the talks that have gone on between Gibson and Matlock over the past few days, and along with everyone at the club, is respectful of the wider issues that needed to be considered for the parties involved.
Earlier today, Gibson posted on X (formerly Twitter) that "football is supposed to be a happy place but it hasn't felt like that lately."
He added that people have their own lives outside of football and not everything you hear or see online is actually the truth. Gibson signed off by saying he's "motivated and hungry" and will stay ready for what's next.
Gibson was initially at Hereford last season, but soon left having scored twice in eight games.
