The London Bulls interviewed Hereford Legend Rob Purdie in two episodes, available on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts.
In Part One, they talk through Rob’s early life including his time in the Leicester City Academy and being let go at the age of 19. The struggles of finding a club, having offers on the table and eventually signing for Hereford.
Rob talks about meeting Graham Turner for the first time and the impact that he had on his career. They talk through his first few seasons where Hereford finished sixth before coming second three years in a row. He talks about some of the players that he played with and matches that he played in.
They then talk to Rob about the Football League and Rob moving on for the first time to Darlington and then onto Oldham, before then returning to Hereford. Rob talks about his good friend, Jamie Pitman who of course took over on an interim basis before becoming manager permanently.
Rob talks through the turmoil and unease at the club with Gary Peters, Richard Sneekes and Russell Hoult coming in over the course of that time. Of course, they talk about relegation and how that feels and maybe where some more points could’ve been picked up throughout the season.
Rob’s honest and open nature makes for a fantastic conversation and insight into life as a footballer.
Make sure you listen to Part 2, being released later this week, which covers the rest of his Hereford United days, signing for Hereford FC and of course retirement.
