We Had A Game Plan And We Stuck To It Said Deakin

Ilkeston manager Ian Deakin felt his side could have won the Cup tie at Hereford yesterday.

"I thought the lads were excellent," said Deakin.

"Injury ravaged squad and it's a very difficult place to come to.

"To be fair I thought first half we looked the better side and we deserved the lead.

"Really disappointed for the lads not to go and win it because we've had some really good chances to go and win.

"Proper cup tie, they are a good side they move the ball well, but we had a game plan and we stuck to it. I had lads going on the pitch in the second half not fully fit to do so.

"I've just said to the lads you're unlucky on the day not to go through and win that, they gave a good account of themselves today.

"We knew that they would come on second half and give us more of a game in terms of putting pressure on us going towards their home fans. We had to be resolute and show real character and they did that.

"You score that goal (Ilkeston took the lead late in the first half) and I always felt we needed to get another one because I knew they were going to put pressure on us.

"We're in the hat for the next round although we have a replay.

"Full credit to the players, I'm delighted for them to come away with a result."
