Hereford Sign Striker

Hereford have signed 26 year old striker Montel Gibson.

"Montel is a player that every non-league club is aware of and likely had on their list," said manager Paul Caddis.

"He’s a real sought after striker and we are pleased Montel decided to join us. A real nuisance in attack but with a work ethic and quality to match.

"I know for a fact he’s a player this club will love and you supporters will enjoy watching. An all or nothing character but with the quality to go with it is exactly what Montel will offer us.

"I am very excited to work with Montel and he comes into a real strong connected group of players."

Some information about Gibson as posted by AFC Telford:

Montel began his career at Highgate United, where he caught the eye and earned a move to the EFL with Notts County during the 2015/16 season.

After a handful of appearances, mainly as a substitute, and various loan spells, the Magpies chose not to renew his contract, and he joined Ilkeston Town for the 2017/18 season.

Travel issues meant Montel sought a club closer to his Birmingham home and joined Redditch United, then moved to Bedworth United before returning to the Black Country with Halesowen Town.

Montel fired 31 goals in 46 appearances for the Yeltz, helping them to the FA Trophy semi-finals and earning a step back into the professional ranks at Grimsby Town.

With first-team opportunities limited, Montel had loan spells with Altrincham and Stourbridge, eventually joining the Glassboys on a permanent deal when Grimsby chose not to extend his contract.

Montel recorded almost a goal per game with Stourbridge, but after a disagreement with the club, Montel was to join Ilkeston Town.

In September 2022, Ilkeston manager Jamie Ward allowed Montel to go out on loan and he joined the Bucks for the rest of the season, scoring his first goal in a 3-2 defeat at Peterborough Sports.

He returned briefly to the Derbyshire club to resolve issues around his work commitments and joined the Bucks again for the second half of the season.

He finished the season as the Bucks’ leading scorer, and although a free agent with considerable interest in his services, he chose to return to Telford for the 2023/24 season.
