Burr back in management after scouting stint

Steve Burr during his spell at Edgar Street

Former Hereford assistant manager Steve Burr is back in management after spending time as a scout for Fleetwood Town and Hull City.

Burr, who was Josh Gowling's assistant at Edgar Street, has now been named as Chris Herbert's assistant at 1874 Northwich.

The Cheshire club are almost starting from scratch on the field ahead of a debut campaign in the Midland League top flight after a three-year stay at Step 4 ended in relegation.

In an article from the Non-League Paper, which has spoken in depth with 64-year-old, the duo worked together briefly at Chester in the 2015-16 season when Herbert, returning to management himself after working in youth recruitment at Salford City the past five years, was tasked with finding local talent from north Wales.

Their roles now are reversed but that doesn't bother Burr, who was Paul Fairclough's right-hand man during a hugely successful period for England C and served as number two to Josh Gowling at Hereford before leaving for Hednesford in September 2022.
