News round up: Gloucester's season is murder, Darlo's promotion push and more

Yan Klukowski became assistant manager at Gloucester City after leaving Edgar Street

Gloucester City's boss Mike Cook, who took over at the club after manager Tim Flowers and assistant Yan Klukowski left, has said the season has been "brutal" and "absolute murder for everybody". Facing high-flying Scunthorpe in the last game of the season this afternoon, it could be relegated City's 28th defeat of the campaign.

As reported by Gloucestershire Live, Cook said: "I am looking forward to next season. I can’t wait for this one to end to be brutally honest as it has been absolute murder for everybody.

"Mainly because of the relegation but the performances have not been anywhere near where they need to be and overall we just haven’t been good enough.”

Scunthorpe United have recalled 25-year-old defender Ross Barrows from his loan at King's Lynn Town. The initial one-month loan, like Tom Pugh's at Hereford, was extended until the end of the season but with a 24-hour recall.

The Eastern Daily Press reported this leaves Linnets boss Adam Lakeland with a headache for today's game against Spennymoor Town as his other right wing-back, Kian Ronan, is out with a shoulder injury.

Steve Watson has signed a two-year deal with Darlington after saving them from relegation. After replacing former Bulls boss Josh Gowling with the side 23rd, Watson has said he now wants promotion within the "next couple of seasons".

Assisted by Terry Mitchell, who is yet to sign a new deal, the club said on their official website that Watson won 12 out of 21 matches since he took over, and 10 out of the last 14. We had 19 points after we lost to Scarborough on 30th December, we've now got 55 and are safe with a game to spare.

Spennymoor Town have said "legend" James Curtis, 42, will retire from playing at the end of the season after almost 1,000 non-league games.

Describing him as a dependable centre-back, the club said on their official website that he arrived at The Brewery Field in 2016 and has gone on to make 274 appearances for the Club over the past eight years, many of them as captain.
