Champions-elect only need a point but fans are given stern warning

Tamworth, who beat Hereford 4-0 in August, could be crowned champions today
Tamworth head to Northamptonshire today to play Brackley Town knowing that just a point will see them crowned this season's Vanarama National League North champions.

If they manage to draw or win any of their last four games, it will be their second promotion in a row. They currently sit 13 points clear at the top of the league and can only be caught by third-placed Chorley if they fail to pick up at least a point.

Fans should also want to travel in numbers and Brackley - who lost in the play-off final against Kidderminster last season and look set to secure a top seven again this year - have upped Tamworth's ticket allocation to 1,000 for the tie.

Tamworth told fans that it is an exciting time to be a Tamworth supporter and they should celebrate - but sensibly.

In a statement, the club said fans should not use any items that are dangerous and can cause harm to others and themselves - such as flares and smoke bombs.

"We would like to remind supporters that the club operates a zero-tolerance policy on the use of pyrotechnics at home and away games," the statement said

"The club will take strong action against anyone identified carrying or using these items, including the issuing of a club banning order and their details being reported to the police."

The champions-elect go into Easter Monday's game on the back of a comfortable win over relegated Bishop’s Stortford on Good Friday where Chris Wreh, Nathan Tshikuna and Kyle Finn scored second half goals.

Goalkeeper Jas Singh also saved a penalty to bag his 25th clean sheet of the season in front of a record National League North crowd for the club of 2,292.

Manager Andy Peaks was delighted with the win and said after the game: “They had nothing to lose coming here and I am delighted to get over what could have been a banana skin.

"In the second half, I think we showed what we are all about and it was great to put on a display in front of a large crowd. We now go to Brackley on Monday with it all being in our own hands, but we go there full of confidence against a very good team who I rate highly.”
