Andy Williams and Jason Cowley were both big summer signings for the Bulls last year
Hereford boss Paul Caddis said he wants to find some diamonds this summer as he looks to address the problem of his side conceding too many goals and not scoring enough.
Caddis has said he'll be busy for the next five weeks before he gets a break, firstly watching the play-offs and also some step three games.
He told the media after the last game of the season that fans shouldn't be disheartened at recruitment from step three because "that's where we're at as a football club" but highlighted that other signings have also been from that level.
While Andy Williams dropped down from League Two, Jason Cowley, Aurio Teixeira and Aaron Skinner all made the step up last summer.
He said Hereford have scored too few goals and conceded too many and that was a problem that needed addressing.
He said he needed to weigh up options, whether it is a tactical change or a change of personnel.
Explaining how much he's got to think about, he said: "The decision to get rid of a player or let a player go is far more than just what supporters will see on the pitch.
"There's certain people bring certain things off the pitch that gives you the results on the pitch, you've got big characters in the dressing room.
"It's difficult because as a manager you've got to think of, right, well if I move this one on then how do I replace that character and big personality and it costs.
"Good players cost money but we'll try and go and find a few diamonds."
He wants to get next season off to the best possible start as he felt the squad in August compared to the side now is like "night and day".
He said bolstering the squad was helped by cup runs but "we don't really want to wait on cup runs".
He confessed thought that "we might have to just accept that and try and get as best as we possibly can".
He added: "You're defined as a manager on your recruitment.
"Tactics and all that are brilliant but if you've not got good players then it's the players that make the manager look good.
"I'll get a holiday I'm sure but for the next couple of weeks we'll still be working, we'll still go and watch the playoff semi-finals in our league, we'll go and watch a couple of players that we've got an eye on at other clubs as well."
