Two arrested as police investigate racial abuse reports at King's Lynn

Police have arrested two people on suspicion of drug offences and racial abuse after King's Lynn Town's 2-1 defeat at home to Boston United on Boxing Day.

Norfolk Constabulary said officers arrested two people, a man in his 20s and a man in his 30s.

They were arrested afters reports that two members of the crowd at The Walks used racially abusive language towards a player.

The man in his 20s was arrested for a racially aggravated public order offence and possession of a class A drug. The second man was arrested for a racially aggravated public order offence. Both are from the King’s Lynn area, police say.

A police spokesperson said the men were taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning and have been released on police bail until 16 February 2024 while enquiries continue.

Police are aware of another allegation of offensive language being used at the match and enquiries are ongoing.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch with us quoting reference number 36/90366/23.

The Linnets released a statement after the game saying it had twice been paused by the referee due to homophobic chanting in one section of the crowd.

The club said they will cooperate with any police or FA investigation.
