Hereford are leading Bishop's Stortford 1-0 thanks to Yusifu Ceesay's early goal at Edgar Street.
With the ball going out for a throw down the left, manager Paul Caddis forced his side to take it quickly and it was Alex Babos who set up Ceesay to bury his left-footed shot after cutting into the box.
It has been a bright opening for the hosts, with new signing Jack Tolley forcing the keeper into making a save.
Hereford enjoyed lots of possession and looked dangerous at times going forward, with Jordan Lyden and Paul Downing showing their experience with calm football, organisation and ability to read the game. A sharper cutting edge is still needed up front, but Ceesay has helped the cause.
The visitors were forced into a change midway through the first half, with Tom Derry being stretchered off with what appeared to be an ankle injury after clashing with Kyle Howkins.
Bishop's Stortford could've equalised when a ball found Aaron Greene in space in the box, but he missed the ball in a sparsely populated box. Curtis Pond also made a decent save in the eight minutes of first half stoppage time to deny Gio McGregor's powerful shot, with skipper Ryan Henshaw volleying over from the corner moments later.
